It isn’t as cold here as you think. Worse than New Mexico, but not worse than Maine. The problem is that there is no sun to offset the psychological effects of the long winters. Then, to atone, the sun decides to stick around for six months straight. No wonder Finns are so temperamental (and so welcoming to people like me).

Surprisingly, there are a lot of tall people in Finland, and they’re probably good at volleyball. In Finnish, they call it lentopallo, or flying ball. (Such a literal language.)

this is hilarious and true and wonderful. i wish the people in my classes here in the states were as rad. maybe they are, but are afraid to own it.

i remember once in high school having a crush on a finnish volleyball player. i couldn’t even tell you his name now except that it ended in an “arh” sound. i think i just liked the idea of finnish people playing volleyball.

That’s another fantastic thing about Finland: if you can get here, and get a residence permit, they will pay you to learn their impossible language and to do job training. If you’d like to marry a Finn, let me know and I’m sure I can find one for you.
